Richard A Smith, Owner/Managing Director
My Refuge Christian Ministries
Richard was born in Crooked Tree Village, June 14th 1963. At the age of 14 he ventured out to Turneffe Islands to begin work in the Tourism Industry. Later he travelled down to Belmopan to work as a Pastry chef and Salesman alongside his sister where he remained there for several years. On September 4th 1984, Richard gave his life to Christ before deciding to take a one-year break to join YWAM. This break turned into a 7 year journey, where he visited 19 countries and 44 states. After which he felt challenged by God to start the first Christian radio in Belize as well as assisting in pioneering 10 other Christian stations.
Richard has served in Christian media for the past 25 years as a Director, engineer, and Radio talk show host (having started the first Christian Talk show ‘Eyes on the Nation’). Richard has also been involved with Mission teams hosting for 34 years. He has also been a part of the political arena where he ran as an independent candidate. Apart from that he offers constant assistance to the Belmopan Government, Police and the larger community. Over the course of his walk with Christ, God has given him many visions to start many events, some of which are still prominent today such as the first Christian parade ‘Taking Back the Land’ which began in 1991 and the Belize Gospel Expo, established in 2013. Richard continues to find new ways in how he can unite churches, connect with local and international ministries and raise up leaders that will impact the nation for Christ!
